Boarding House Renovation: Girdlestoneites Common Room, Godalming, Surrey

Charterhouse School

Girdlestoneites – commonly known as “Duckies” – is one of the ten boarding houses at Charterhouse School. Nikki was commissioned to refurbish the student common rooms within this beautiful, centrally located building. The aim was to create a welcoming and versatile space where students can relax, study, and socialiseNikki was commissioned to redesign the student common rooms to create welcoming space for students to relax, study and socialise in.

The existing wood panelling provided a rich, heritage backdrop, which Nikki used to define distinct zones for both relaxation and study. Commercial-grade furniture was chosen for its durability, complemented by tactile fabrics, soft furnishings, and carefully hand-selected pieces that combine comfort with practicality. The house colours were carefully incorporated throughout, adding a subtle sense of identity and cohesion to the design.

“I have worked with Nikki on a number of high-profile projects at King’s College School Wimbledon, Charterhouse, and Edgeborough schools. Throughout she has been extremely knowledgeable and very professional, working diligently to deliver the required brief.

On all occasions the results have been excellent, exceeding expectations, and achieving glowing praise from pupils, staff and parents. I would highly recommend her.”
