Wimbledon Common Preparatory School
An entrance sets the tone for any space, it’s the first impression a client gains of your business or home, it should tell your story, reflect your brand values and be memorable. We were excited to redesign the reception area at Wimbledon Common Preparatory School, also known as Squirrels. The school is set in a traditional residential building in the heart of Wimbledon Village. Its yellow shutters are a well-known feature of the building as the shutters reflect the School’s sunny and friendly personality.
The new interior design for the reception created a special space that cleaned up the walls and proudly gave purpose to the space instead of it feeling like a forgotten threshold. A simple and timeless colour palette of French grey and soft white was elevated with a whimsical yellow ribbon painted detail running up the staircase. Architectural features were simplified and unsightly cables and piping were cleverly hidden behind wooden panelling. A mirrored framed TV was positioned above the restored fireplace making a more usable space while highlighting the stunning traditional features.
A central focus was created in the reception area by installing a simple hollow-round light feature that lights the space with a warm glow shining up to illuminate the beautiful detailed ceiling. A simple round table is positioned below the light feature creating a strong central focal point as you walk into the space, this is styled with a stunning floral display creating a space for drinks or materials for school events. The design created a welcoming and strong brand identity for this school.
