Wimbledon Loft Conversion

Wimbledon Loft Conversion

I have designed many loft spaces over the years, so I was excited to finally design my own conversion. In my loft I wanted to bridge together a new contemporary aesthetic with the traditional fabric of the home. I was keen to gain as much height in the loft as possible and utilise every inch of usable space while making it look simple and beautiful. We created a vaulted ceiling above the staircase giving us a wow factor as you walk up. I installed a gallery corner on the landing to create an art gallery space that will evolve as we collect more artwork and objects.

We worked with Flaherty Builders to gain as much height in the bedroom as possible.  We incorporated a drop ceiling that hides the curtain track creating a seamless detail that allowed us to have full height sliding doors to frame the view outside making the room feel like another floor of the house, rather than a traditional loft.

My en suite makes me smile every day as I am so happy with the space.  The design is a wet room layout making the space feel larger and more generous than you would usually find in a loft. A sophisticated blend of Carrara marble on the walls teamed with greyed oak effect chevron flooring creates a calm, understated space. The full length swishy sheer curtains that kiss the floor softens the space. Again, the window is full height and the handle is hidden within the frame, creating a picture window.

The vanity unit is bespoke. We used the same greyed oak finish on the vanity unit as the flooring creating a consistent tone through the rooms    allowing it all to flow.

The real gem of the loft space is the walk-in wardrobe. We had a small space in the eves that we transformed with a clever storage solution. I was keen to use the Ikea Pax system as it is great for maximising storage in small spaces. We coupled this with bespoke fronts and handles making it look like a bespoke dressing room, but at a more affordable price.

We painted all the joinery, walls, eves and ceiling the same colour blue colour from Paint and Paper Library to visually make the space look taller.

I’m so happy with my loft as it is my little oasis of calm at the start and end of the day.
